Satisfied with a draw?

“It wasn’t the best match that either team has played, it was very tactical. In the first half, we played too deep and gave the ball away too much. If you’re not able to win, you at least have to know how to avoid defeat. I’m satisfied with a draw, we kept a clean sheet, we’re still top of the group and we’ve got two games left to secure our place in the next round.”

Did Monaco try everything to win the game?

“The team wanted to win but I feel as if we were a bit nervous and not confident enough. The second half was a lot better, we pushed a lot more. But PSV are also a good team with a good coach. For me, this group is Champions League standard so I’m pleased with a point. But we know that we can do better.”

The tactical change at half-time

“I want to take full responsibility for the team and tactics in the first half. We started using the same system as in Eindhoven. What was missing in the first half, like in Brest, was attitude and passion. We weren’t aggressive or dynamic enough and you can’t win like that. We changed system to create more chances and the second half was better. Sometimes you have to wake the players up a bit. I always try to be calm but maybe today I was a little bit louder than usual.”

Summary of the game

“We’re still top of the group, that’s what we’ll take from tonight. We know that our performance wasn’t great but we’ll take confidence from the fact that we didn’t concede. Some days things go according to plan and on others it’s hard to play the football you want to play. But at the end of the day you have to focus on the positives and tonight we are top of the group.”

A clean sheet

“When you play in my position, coming away from the game with a clean sheet helps to build confidence. That’s the main thing we’ll take from it. It’s good for the entire defensive unit, for Alex (Nübel, the goalkeeper) and for us.”

High stakes

“Maybe we were a bit cautious because it was an important game. That was the difference between the first and second halves, we saw it on the pitch. We showed totally different sides of ourselves. We had a lot more of a go after half-time. It’s possible that what’s at stake inhibited us because we really wanted to gain more ground on tonight’s opponents.”

Opportunities conceded on set pieces

“Of course, we often do video analysis of set pieces. We try to understand how our opponent approaches these phases of play. You have to know how to adapt because sometimes set pieces can be decisive. We know we have to work harder to improve further ahead of our next games.”

Few chances created for the attackers

“It’s true that they didn’t get a lot of service as it was quite a tactical and closed game. But I’m not worried about them. Myron (Boadu) scored in the first game (in Eindhoven) and I’m sure he’ll show the ability he has in our upcoming matches.”
