Thoughts on the 2-1 win at Clermont
“The credit goes to the players. We’re no longer bottom of the league. That’s both important and incidental at the same time. The last time it happened, we were back at the bottom 24 hours later. But if it turns out to be the case this time, we have to make sure we don’t end up back there again.”
Coming from behind
“It was a miraculous recovery. It all started with a mistake we made and then a second error with poor marking at a corner. Before that, we should have taken the lead through Wahbi Khazri. It was harder in the second half, Clermont had the upper hand. But this team doesn’t know when to give up. They’re becoming more and more confident and are reaping the rewards. Also because we finished the match with five forwards on the pitch. The players made the right decisions.”
Mental strength
“I’ve not gone through the same things the players have since the start of the season. But they realise that if they stick together, we have a team that can hold its own. But we need to prove it another 15 times. We have to remain extremely vigilant. The next match is vital, against a team that plays really good football. But first, we’ll get some rest.”
Celebrations
“It’s Eliaquim Mangala’s birthday today. And the Green Angels supporters group’s too. We’re happy to be able to give them a victory to celebrate, as well as the 300 employees of the club. I’ve also got a few words for the six players I left at home – they’ll inevitably have a part to play at some point.”
